Blagojevich to name Burris to Senate
“Gov. Rod Blagojevich is expected today to name former Illinois Atty. Gen. Roland Burris to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate. The action comes despite warnings by Democratic Senate leaders that they would not seat anyone appointed by the disgraced governor who faces criminal charges of trying to sell the post, sources familiar with the decision said. Shortly after...

Steep or cheap?
Rude. I saw this in the January issue of Cosmo. To justify my own Steeper vs. Cheaper, I thought of the name before I saw the issue, but even though my title is similar, the two mean different things.  I want to add that because Cosmo uses the word “cheap” it gives the item a negative connotation not only of price, but of quality. My use of “cheaper” refers simply to...

Word of the Day: Facon
Courtesy of Gberg, facon is fake, microwaveable bacon that takes literally five seconds to cook in the microwave and leaves behind slimy grease stains on a napkin. In a sentence: I was running late for work so I made two pieces of facon for breakfast. Took me 10 seconds.

Everyone needs a pair of these. The provocative peep-toe Steve Madden shoes on the left are $69.95 while the nearly identical ones on the right are only $24.49 from Target. The only difference? The Steve Madden pumps are exactly one inch taller.

Steeper vs. cheaper: Blue satin strapless dress
As one of my favorite features in magazines, Steeper vs. Cheaper will now appear frequently on my blog. (This will also become a staple on a secret project I’m working on…!) I love finding items that are wallet friendly yet make you feel like a million bucks, so whenever I find good deals I’ll share them with you. You know I’m always looking… Here’s the first...

4.5 years and 6 cell phones later...
I’m finally done with college! During my college years of debauchery, I lost three phones to toilets, one to beer, one I got on the black market and it just stopped working one day, bringing the grand total to six, my current phone: A BlackBerry Pearl which will only scroll down and not up if I don’t charge it enough and has a missing #7 key… This number may make me seem like a...

Tribune Editorial: "Governor, resign."
“I should say if anybody wants to tape my conversations, go right ahead, feel free to do it. … [W]hatever I say is always lawful … I don’t believe there’s any cloud that hangs over me, I think there’s nothing but sunshine hanging over me.” — Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Dec. 8, 2008 “It’s a very sad day for Illinois government. Gov. Blagojevich...

A little blogo about Blago
I’m watching CNN’s coverage of Blago’s arrest this morning and everyone is buzzing about if he will still be able to name the next Illinois senator. It’s interesting to see the press quoting Gov. Rod Blagojevich from the 79-page criminal complaint because no one seems to know how to censor the excessive expletives. “‘The senate seat is a bleepin’...

Uggs vs. EMUs
I just got a pair of EMU Australia “Stinger Hi” sheepskin boots in Chocolate as a graduation present. They look exactly like Ugg boots, which are also made in Australia, but which brand is really better?  Pros: EMU boots are a little less expensive. EMUs have better traction on snow/ice because the sole is better suited as a winter boot (I found this out this morning while walking...
