I had to share this long-overdue DIY with you, friends. Would you believe this adorable framed chalkboard that now adorns my wall used to be a dusty picture frame at the Goodwill? Would you also believe I put the whole thing together for less than $15? I kid you not. Here’s how to make your own.

You’ll need:

• Old picture frame
• Sandpaper
• Spray paint chalkboard paint (found at Home Depot)
• Spray paint in your favorite accent color
• White chalk

Directions:

1. Remove glass from picture frame and spray with 2-3 coats of chalkboard paint. Let dry between each coat.
2. Go over the edges of the picture frame border lightly with sandpaper to help the accent color spray paint stick.
3. Spray border with 2-3 coats of accent color. Let dry between each coat.
4. Once border and glass are fully dry, place glass in frame and wait 24 hours before using.
5. Before using, color in entire chalk area with chalk and then erase to prevent writing from setting in chalkboard.
6. Bribe roommate/boyfriend to hang on wall.
7. Write passive aggressive notes to roommate/boyfriend on chalkboard (not shown).
