These ridonk, omgidie earrings belong to me! I picked them up at a vintage jewelry sale last year for…$8! I was told they are more than 80 years old.
While I still haven’t found the right occasion to wear them, you better believe I was getting them in the magazine somehow. They look beautiful here! And so does she, obvi.
How gorgeous is she, right? Makeup artist Alison Penner modeled her favorite beauty looks to get you through the winter, and revealed her favorite products to use and how to recreate the looks for yourself.

After seeing the Sally Hansen Salon Effects real nail polish strips in stores, in magazines and all over the Internet, I decided to try them out last night.
I’m way into bright, obnoxious nails right now so I decided to go with Electric Shock, which turned out even more neon than this photo proves. Here are my initial thoughts:
Pros:
- No mess
- No dry time
- Could apply them anywhere
- Lots of color/pattern options
Cons:
- Almost as expensive as an entire bottle of OPI or Essie
- Takes nearly as long to apply as regular nail polish
- Messy cuticles that aren’t easy to fix
- Still smells like regular nail polish!
I don’t think I would buy them again. Have you tried them out?
Inspired by this lovely photo, I took to my self-timing camera with Revlon’s Just Bitten lip stain in Flame on my lips and Essie’s Mint Candy Apple on my ticklers.
The nail polish, which I borrowed from Brad’s fabulous twin sister, looks a little more Robin’s egg blue in this photo but in reality is closer to a sea-foam green. Love it.
And the winner of the giveaway is…Megan of thecautiousabandon! Girl, you won! Now your hair will smell like margaritas, too.

REVIEW (and giveaway!): Moisture Rich Wash and Rinse by Simply Organic
I was stoked when Simply Organic sent me a supposed miracle-working duo of shampoo and conditioner to review. The products are from their Moisture Rich line, meant for coarse, curly, dry or chemical-treated hair. I was especially excited to try these out because I have hair for days—thick, wavy, long, color-treated hair—which I spend a lot of time and money to tame.
Using these products composed of all organic ingredients made me feel like instead of further damaging my hair with chemicals, I was actually giving it a break.
What I liked most about the shampoo and conditioner was the way it smelled, they use natural lime oil which almost smells like margaritas, and the way it eliminated frizz and left my hair noticeable shiny.
BONUS GIVEAWAY: Simply Organic was nice enough to throw in a free lip balm that’s worked wonders on my dry winter lips, and they were also generous enough to let me do a contest on my blog so one lucky reader can try out the shampoo and conditioner, a combined $58 value, too.
HOW TO ENTER: Simple. All you have to do is “like” this post. And for those not on Tumblr, simply hit “like” on the Facebook button below this post. You have until 10 a.m. CST on Friday, Feb. 18 to enter. I will choose one winner at random and announce the name Friday afternoon.

Two weeks ago yesterday, I used a gift card from Christmas to indulge in my first no-chip manicure. As a known nail polish picker and frequent color changer, I was skeptical about it lasting the supposed two weeks or more. But believe me when I tell you, it’s worth it.
My gift card was for Mario Tricoci salon, which offers the no-chip manicure for a whopping $48. Most nail salons now offer the no-chip mani, sometimes called a shellac manicure, and often for much lower than that. I did some research and found I could even get a no-chip mani at my office for just $25!
One downside was that I only had 12 mostly boring colors to choose from, but the process took about 30 minutes and there was zero drying time, which I loved. And afterward my nails were stronger and more durable which allowed them to grow into pretty, normal-people nails.
Things my nails survived:
- Scraping candle wax off my bathroom counter
- Peeling off a wine bottle label
- Picking popcorn out ma teeth
- Several sabatoge attempts by Brad
Toward the end of the two weeks I did happen to get a few chips, but I used a dark purple polish to touch it up. With a few more touch-ups, I think they may be able to last at least another full week.
